Q: can you fit a 575 engine in a 71 chevy vega?
wanna get an engine and this was my favorite but its big so im making sure it will fit this car is definitely going to be a drag racing car... i chose the vega its very light and also because bill jenkins seemed to do pretty well with it... but is there another car that is light that can fit a big engine like a 575 to a 632 easily and cheaply?

A: FIRST, Jenkins' car was custom built. Tube frame (probably) with Vega sheet metal screwed on. Since you said "can it be done cheaply" the answer is NO! I had a Monza (same as a Vega) with a factory 350, and it was tighter than (well, we wont go into that), so a big block would require MAJOR mods. Better look for a 60's Nova, Malibu, M/C, or Camaro........ (where did that guy find a '70 Vega? they didn't come out 'till '71)

I have just recently purchased a 1975 Chevy Vega so I can build it to drag race. I was curious, because I can't seem to find it anywhere, about how much this car weighed. When I purchased the car it had a fiber glass hood, fiber front quarter panels, and fiber glass front clip. Any ideas, my guess it about 2300 pounds.

A: look on the sticker on the door it tells the front and rear weight of it and it also has a combined weight also,i owned of those a long time ago,mine was a gt,and it ran good for a 4 banger,a friend of mine has one with a 350 in it he,s building for the drag strip,its not very heavy,because hes having problems keeping the front wheels down on it,last year when he first built it they wouldn't let him run it,because it was to unstable,this year he has put frame links in it,hoping to make it more stable,good luck with it,

Q: Help my futile attempt at fixing my 1973 chevy vega?
Sorry, everyone, I forgot to give details about what happened in thew first plcae silly I have a 1973 Vega hatchback, which was garaged from nearly the time it was bought until recently. The original owner was a young wife and when she died suddenly, her husband kept all her belongings as they were, including the car. So, this Vega had about 13000 original miles on it. It runs fairly well, though a few days ago it was running slowly and the exhaust seemed thick. So I put water in the radiator and a quart of oil in the engine, and it ran smoothly again. Though the next day the engine wouldn't catch when starting it. I've been trying for days with the same results: it cranks but won't start all the way up. Any suggestions? Thanks!

A: Check the oil again Vegas had a engine shut off when the oil pressure was low.Also the fuel pump on a Vega is a external electric pump its not in the tank.They can be replaced for under $30.They also have a timing belt that needs 2 be replaced about every 50 k. Its not real difficult to change check www.autozone for directions

Q: Have you ever owned a CHEVY CHEVETTE, VEGA or CORVAIR?
If so, what do you remember about it, or them? Do you own one or more of these three cars now? Would you like to? I once owned a 1964 CORVAIR MONZA, and a 1977 CHEVETTE. The Corvair was a two speed dash mounted selector automatic with AC, fun and kinda fast for what it was. The Chevette was a no AC, stripped down model with a 4 speed, slow, high interior noise and rode like a shopping cart.

Q: Hi, I have a 74 Vega GT, am considering putting the 4.3 L, chevy s-10 engine in it?
Has anybody done this or have an opinion on it. Will this engine work with my existing transmission or do I have to get that too. What other modifications would I have to do. Already has an external fuel pump, if that matters.

A: there have been lots of v8 vega conversions so there is room for 4.3 as it is 4 or 5 in shorter but is 4.3 late style with ballance shaft ? or carb which trans 5 sp or 4 sp auto ? if engine is tpi injct and 4 sp auto you need complette with wireing and cumputor ign switch fuel pump etc and you need to put pump in tank and run return line to tank and when finished not shure if worth it as 4.3 ballance shaft engine is very smooth but gut less you also need 4.3 engine mounts better bet might be 3.8 or 3.4 from camero or firebird but yuo need cumputer stuff here two as these engines were computor controled and pump in tank engines and tpi but can be made into non tpi depends on engine 3.4 3.8 are 60 degree v6 so lots narrower and lighter than 4.3 and in stock from run much better exhaust should fit in engine box on v 8 exhaust was most times run through wheel weels 4.3 is same wide

Q: I need help fixing my 1973 Chevrolet Vega!!?
I have 73 Chevy Vega, and it doesn't seem to be running well. I think it needs oil, but I can't find the dipstick. Also, I don't know what kind of oil it should have. I had someone look at it recently, and he said it needed some work on the radiator, including a new heating core. However, he couldn't to the areas of the engine that needed work without breaking other parts. Can anyone tell me how to check the oil and how much I should put in? Also, any other advice about a 73 Vega is greatly appreciated :) Ok, I've had a lot of people say the dipstick is on "the right side". I'm still not seeing it. There is a cap marked "oil", so it makes sense the dipstick would be nearby. Can anyone elaborate?? Thanks for all the advice, though!!!

A: Chevy Vega have not sween one in years I had a 73 vega bought it brand new so that shows i guess how old iam vegas were famous for burning oil i know i had to put alot in mine as for the dipstick i forget but it was not hard to find just pop your hood and it should be right there. 10w 30 oil should be fine when you find dipstick that should be your guide to how much oil you will need 2 quarts or 2 litres max i believe Could be your dipstick is missing look hard for the spout
