Q: 1985 Chevy Suburban diesel, mechanical or electronic speedometer?
Like the title says, I have a 1985 Chevy Suburban diesel (6.2L), and i'm wondering if the speedometer is classified as mechanical (i think it is) or electronic? I have to purchase a part, and it is relative as to which part i get. The trans is a 700r4 automatic. Thanks!

A: this is a mechanical (cable type) speedo the electric was not available on the suburban until 94'

Q: how to remove rear brake drum from 1985 chevy suburban?
would like to get some help with online pics to compare what im doing also if u know of any free sites to give info or just what im looking for would be awsome ty

A: Ok, I've done this many times. Of course, jack the rear up and remove the wheel. Make sure you dont set your parking brake before you jack it up, cause the e-brake will grab the drum and hold it in place. Just chock the wheels very good. Once the wheel is off, there is no more hardware holding it on, but it might be tough to pull off...you just have to wiggle it, jerk on it, cuss a lot, but eventually it will come off. If you try that and still cant get it, remove the little rubber plug on the back side of the brake assembly and loosen the brake with a small flat head screwdriver. You will see a little barrel with teeth all the way around it,and there will be a small spring-loaded tang pressing against the teeth. Just pull the tang up and use another screwdriver to rotate the barrel.

Q: what mpg on 1985 chevy suburban 6.2l auto trans.?

Q: Im looking for a vacuum line diagram for a 1985 chevy 350 with 4 barrel carb?
Its in a 4x4 suburban with a rockchester carb, if that matters. Just finished putting in new motor and forgot to take extra steps...like taking pics. No I dont want to go to the library. I would like to find something online if at all possible. Thanks for any help.

A: Try J.C. Whitney's They most likely have a web site.

Q: do i have to replace the whole distributor if my vacuum advance isnt working?
1985 chevy suburban,350 v8

A: That'll be a negative. Depending on the part number of the distributor, you can purchase a new vacuum advance for around $15. You can even install it without removing the distributor. Good luck.

Q: 1990 LS 400 or 1985 k3500 chevy pickup?
which one is better in a suburban environment for general use? i drive to the city at least once a week and am an interstate traveler, i also am a skilled mechanic i only occasionally need to move cargo, like a couch or anythning big,

A: it really depends on your usage of the vehicle, if you ever need a vehicle for loading or unloading or moving heavy things then get the truck. However I will say this.... it is much more expensive to repair a 90 LS 400 versues a chevy truck. But you will lose in gas costs on the truck

Q: can you change automatic locking hubs to manual locking hubs?
i have a 1985 chevy suburban 4x4 my front hubs should automaticly lock in but they dont so can you put manual locking hubs on this truck

A: Yes it's quite simple, you just need to buy a set of manual hubs, remove the six bolts from each existing hub, remove the old hubs and install the manual hubs, then install the six bolts.

Q: What would it take to run an old, basic, diesel engine on veggie oil?
I know you can run diesel engines on veggie oil, but I'm aware that there are a few different kinds of diesels. For example, an engine from a 1985 chevy suburban will certainly run different then an engine from a new jetta. If I dropped an old, basic diesel truck engine into my car, what would it take to run veggie oil? I know you have to buy an expensive kit and you still have to start on diesel to run svo in a newer car, but I've heard of people doing NOTHING to their older cars and running on 100% veggie oil all the time. What's up here? Could I buy an old chevy diesel to put in my old toyota fj40 and run it on nothing but filtered veggie oil? If anyone saw the mythbusters they drove an old benz for 8 miles on veggie oil with no problems. Will my engine last? I've heard older engines actually run better on veggie oil. True? Here's my car: http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h144/LandCruiserSteve/1978GrnFJ40-2.jpg Other ones a jeep cherokee, also need a new engine the first ones a toyota, not a jeep. and i can afford the gas, I just want to try something new

A: Keep in mind that vegetable oil freezes at 40 degrees.

Q: 85 Full Sized Blazer Trans.?
1985 Full Size Chevy Blazer (Suburban) 6.2 L Diesel Engine (700 Trans. not the 400) In the morning when it is cold, the tranny shifts a little hard between the gears, mainly 1st to 2nd. Once it has warmed up, it shifts smooth as silk, i mean very nice shifting, but while its cold, its a bit hard on the shifting. Is this s commonb problem or what could cause it? what might fix it? Trans Fluid and filter change? I hear the new Trans. purge can kill old trnsmissions that have never had it done, what service should i have performed to rectifiy this problem. Thanks for the link bobweb, the site was very informative and helpful.

A: Take it to a shop while it is still a minor problem. It may be something a simple as a throttle control sensor. Cool truck by the way. Take care of it.
