Q: 1984 Chevy Suburban Radio?
I have an 84 Chevy Suburban K10 4WD 6.2 Diesel
Over time about a year ago, my speakers would cut out, and sometimes work, sometimes not. Now it has deteriorated to the point that only the dash passenger side speaker works, and that is only occasionally, when it decides to turn on. Usually, I would just hit the dash or the underside of the dash to try to make them work again, but now that hardly works. The previous owner said there is a small amp under the radio in the dash, and there are sockets for speakers under the back seats.
I ask a sound shop about replacing the wiring because i thought that was the problem. they said they don't replace the harneses, they use their own wire, and charge by the hour. But they said that its my radio thats bad, not the wiring. I have the stock radio (AM/FM Casset). I have a CD player i can put in it, but I want to know. Do you think my radio is bad or just the wiring, and if I replace the radio, is it something that i can do myself?
A: I had an '85 Chevy El Camino with the Conquista package which had an AM/FM/Cassette stock radio. The radio would crackle like my speakers were busted when I turned the volume up or went over bumps...after replacing the radio, everything worked fine.
Usually, wires don't go bad unless you have flood damage or something odd like that.
Q: does a 1984 Chevy suburban have a catalytic converter or need one?
3/4 ton, 5.7 liter with a quad. carb
A: sure it has one or two it depends on dual exhaust of not. you do not need one but it will help to quiet the thing down, but hey they do sound neat with out them
Q: what type of automatic transmission went into a 1984 chevy suburban/silverado 10 with a 5.7Liter and A/C?
A: if the transmission pan has 13 bolts its a THM400
if the transmission pan has 16 bolts its a THM700-R4
it could be either for that year.
Q: need to work on older chevy suburban?
im going to be workin on a 1984 chevy suburban, its going to be switched over to a propane engine after i get a few things done with it so what all should i replace as far as the engine goes? what things need to be done to make it like new again?
A: If you're going to propane, make sure the heads and valves are in good shape, and the cooling system is perfect. The valves on propane motors last forever if they are in good shape to begin with, but if they're carboned up or otherwise borderline, the propane system will cause you grief. Likewise the cooling system, especially if you live where it gets below freezing temps in the winter.
Q: can i put a350 engine from a 1984 suburban in a1990 chevy pickup with a350 engine?what changes will i need?
A: The engines are the same dimensionally, so it will bolt in . The problem is if you plan on using the fuel injection from the `90 the intake manifold will not bolt up to your `84 heads. If you leave the carb from the `84 on the engine none of your emmissions and computer connections are going to hook up properly . If you have to go through emission testing in your location the carbed engine will not pass the `90 specs. You would need to install the heads from the `90 engine onto the `84 engine then the rest of your `90 parts will bolt up. You also need to remove the fuel pump along with the fuel pump rod and cover from the `84 engine and install a block off plate in the place of the fuel pump because the `90 engine uses an in tank electric fuel pump. All in all your best bet would be to find a `87 - `93 engine and it will bolt right in with out all the hassle. Hope this helps.
Q: Largest tire on a 1984 Suburban?
I have a 1984 Chevy Suburban, 2 wheel drive with a V8. I have bought another truck to drive and gave the burban to my wife. She wants it to look bad so I bainted it black and added after market 15'' wheels. I would like to know how big of a tire I can go without having to lift. I wont lift a 2wd cause it wont go in the mud. Thats what my truck is for. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.....Also please dont just give me an website to go to!!!!! Thanks.
A: On 15" rims the largest (stock) tire size and the recommended tire for that vehicle is a 235/75 R 15. Larger custom sizes are available but clearance will quickly become a problem.
Q: What is the most recent model year that a Chevy Suburban could be purchased with a manual transmission?
I am interested in getting a Suburban with a manual transmission. I have found Suburbans with a manual transmission as new as 1984 but nothing newer. Does anyone know whether the newer generation of Suburbans (1992 and later) could be purchassed with a manual transmission? Knowing this would help me to search through for sale ads. Thanks.
A: Possibly 1991.

Q: cheyy van g20 vs suburban?
which vehicle wastes more gas.chevy van g20 1991 or suburban 1984 both same 350 engines and both running good.
A: Assuming similar running conditions....they are going to be very close....the G20 is a 3/4 ton van, making it heavier than a half ton....it will be a bit heavier than the 'burban.....offsetting it's fuel injection advantage...

A: could be the radio: its 23 years old! might be the amp too or could be the wires, you'll have to inspect the wires yourself or pay someone to eliminate all other possibilities
